Research:

  • Biogeochemistry of toxic heavy metals in soil-plant systems, especially arsenic (As) and selenium (Se) in rice and its derived products. My research focused mainly on arsenic, but also concentrations and speciation of selenium in different parts of rice plants and rice-based products.
  • Bioaccessibility of heavy metals from the foods and soils through mimic gastrointestinal digestion containing gut microflora. The culture of gut microflora was conducted by the simulator of the human intestinal microbial ecosystem (SHIME). The number of colon microbiota are huge and actively involved in modulating the bioaccessibility and speciation of heavy metals (such as arsenic) containing in soil or food.
